Master's and Specialist Award

The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) presents this awards to those who have demonstrated at least four of the following: teaching; writing; advocacy; curriculum development; community service in gifted education; juried presentations (local, state, or national); facilitating the social and emotional development of gifted and talented students; mentoring/tutoring of children and adolescents; publication of papers in juried and/or non-juried publications; participation in graduate student research colloquia; teacher inservice/parent workshop.

Submission Procedure
The NAGC national office will make every effort to contact anyone with missing materials prior to the deadline.

• A brief statement from the candidate, 300 words or less, that expresses his or her short- and long-term goals related to research and/or practice activity in gifted and talented education.
• One letter of recommendation from a faculty member in gifted and talented education on why the nominee would be an appropriate recipient of the award.
• One letter of recommendation from a professional who can speak to the candidate's professional experiences (such as a legislative aide, teacher, administrator, or publisher).
• Vita and/or supporting documents for the nominee (membership in professional organization(s) in gifted child education; research; publications; presentations to professional groups; exemplary work with students and/or schools).

Selection Criteria

• Viable candidates will have a proven record of at least four of the following:
• Teaching
• Writing
• Advocacy
• Curriculum development
• Community service in gifted education
• Juried presentations (local, state, or national)
• Facilitating the social and emotional development of gifted and talented students
• Mentoring/tutoring of children and adolescents
• Publication of papers in juried and/or non-juried publications
• Participation in graduate student research colloquia
• Teacher in-service/parent workshop

Restrictions

• An individual may receive this award once.
• Nominees must be more than half-way through a graduate (non-doctoral) program on the education of gifted & talented students or have graduated within one year prior to to the NAGC Convention in November.
• A maximum of one candidate and award can be given to one institution. Up to 3 awards can be given.

Award
The recipient(s) of the award and the other applicants will be notified of the Awards Committee's decision in writing no later than August 31.
