Diversity Toolbox

Many educational groups are concerned about how best to meet the needs of special populations of gifted students. District and school leaders plan for educational opportunities and teacher education that respond to the learning needs of all their students. However, not all schools and districts have leaders and teachers with backgrounds in gifted and talented education who also know how to best address the particular needs of gifted students who come from low-income families, are minority, non-English speakers, or lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and/or questioning (LGBTQ).

Our first of several toolboxes created to provide resources to administrators, teachers, and parents/caregivers is on the needs of gifted LGBTQ students. Explore one or all the sections.  You may download and share the toolbox or read it online.

LGBTQ gifted students may find themselves socially isolated because of their giftedness and the sexual orientation and/or gender expression. There are things schools can do to help LGBTQ gifted students succeed.
