Kendall Hunt Publishing President Chad Chandlee presented Heather Vaughn, Assistant Director of Advanced Academics at the University of Texas at Austin, UT High School, the 2017 Master’s & Specialist Award at NAGC 2017 Friday morning, Nov. 10, 2017, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Vaughn was selected because of her varied work on behalf of gifted children and her commitment to her own continuing education.
The Master’s & Specialist Award is presented to those who have demonstrated at least four of the following: teaching, writing, advocacy, curriculum development, community service in gifted education, juried presentations (local, state or national), facilitating the social and emotional development of gifted and talented students, mentoring/tutoring of children, publication of papers in juried and/or non-juried publications, participation in graduate student research colloquia or teacher in-service/parent workshop.
“Gifted education is so much more than providing strong resources in order to challenge today’s high-ability learners,” said Chad Chandlee, president of Kendall Hunt Publishing Company. “It takes a committed mentor to embolden many of tomorrow’s leaders.
